This simple step will help you gain clarity. And, it gives voice to vital issues that you possibly haven’t had time to think about specifically.

  • Am I satisfied with my career?
  • What’s the quality of my marriage relationship?
  • How’s my relationship with my adult children?
  • What kind of life events have I previously encountered?
  • What is my overall physical condition?
  • How do I view myself?
  • What kind of temperament do I have?
  • What are my core moral beliefs?
  • What is my worldview?

2. Communicate Openly

Next, communicate those feelings to your spouse and those closest to you. This is an important step to deal with midlife crisis challenges. Be as honest and open as you can regarding what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling. Harboring long-standing dissatisfaction, resentments, a general lack of fulfillment, and pent-up frustrations will ultimately lead to making bad decisions during a midlife crisis.

Many men and women keep these thoughts and feelings suppressed for years until they hit midlife. All these volatile emotional and physical environments can create a full-blown “midlife crisis.”

These can shatter fragile relationships, shipwreck your career, undermine your financial security, destroy your credibility, and push you to the brink of disaster. You can deal with midlife crisis issues better by communicating more effectively with those whom you trust. Many of the poor choices attributed to “midlife crisis symptoms” can be directly linked to not sharing issues like:

  • Physical health issues you’ve not revealed
  • Your emotional needs
